Billy - "Wiremu"

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

Recently travelled to Brazil where I discovered what it is like to be in a country where you hardly know the language. This has increased my empathy for those travelling to NZ with little to no English vocabulary and so the best possible service is given to all nations from around the world. I’ve travelled around the world twice and lived in Australia, England, Fiji and the Solomon Islands. Though, it is Wellington that I call home. Knowing this fair city like the back of my hand, I can inform my passengers of the true Wellington which I love so dearly.

How long have you been at SCS?

3 years and 3 months

What do you love about your job at SCS?

Meeting people from all over the world. Seeing Wellington through their fresh glance. Informing visitors of the natural Wellington environment and history.

What do you do in your spare time?

Surfing, Singing, caring for nature, meditation, painting (art), walking, frisbee, loving my wife and friends.

Any hidden talents?

 Artist, Singer/Songwriter and Energy healer.

Favourite thing about Wellington?

Clean, clear blue water.

Most memorable moment at SCS?

I was driving along the beach towards the seal colony whilst telling my passengers of seeing Orca on Wellington’s south coast and then suddenly a pod of 7 Orca surfaced close to the beach heading in our direction. We got to the colony and the Orca played for the entire time we were there. The seals were oblivious to any danger. The Orca had apparently been after stingrays.

Married? Children? Pets?

One wife, 4 nieces and 3 imaginary puppies.

Anything else you want to share?

One of the extra things I bring to the Seal Coast Safari is my love for native plants and some of their uses.
